Goole – Montague Mills factory

Built for Burton in 1949 to address labour shortages in Leeds and Lancashire, the Goole factory was situation on the edge of town and described as a “Garden Factory”. Its architecture is plainer than the pre-war factories but displays some subtle Burton Deco styling. It was opened by HRH The Princess Royal and Sir Montague Burton on 21st April, and quotes from the day were displayed on plaques at the front of the building up until its demolition in 2022. Sadly, the site remains vacant.
